Planning a curriculum review of our undergraduate nursing programme over the next 18 months. We are hoping for this to include a significant shift to TBL. Does anyone have any experiences/advice to share , lessons learned etc? I anticipate the main challenges to be (1) reluctant faculty, accustomed to and comfortable with traditional lectures (2) scale - around 300 students per cohort (3) time to prepare meaningful content
Any words of wisdom would be very welcomed!
Laura
Hi Laura
I’d be very happy to share our experiences and advice when we transitioned our pharmacy programme to TBL. Perhaps we can arrange a date to meet via Teams
Best wishes

Hi Laura!
In addition to the call with Simon, you can also check out the recording of the session where @sjtwedde and @gquinn spoke about some of these challenges and solutions.
Transitioning from a lecture-based program to a TBL

Dear Laura,
The most critical thing is to make sure that no one tries to implement TBL until they REALLY understand what they are doing. If they do it completely and correctly they will have lots of positive experiences. If they “cut corners” either because they don’t really understand what they are supposed to do or, because of past experience, they don’t believe it will work, they are likely to encounter problems and THINK that TBL doesn’t work with their students or with their subject matter. The key to success is investing time and resources to get faculty members well trained in both how and why TBL works before they actually try to do it.

Hi All
I am at the University of Bath in the Department of Life Sciences. We are looking to implement TBL more widely across the programmes we offer. To help us prepare we have a TBL working group currently undertaking the Fundamentals Training run by TBLC.
Laura and Simon - would be great if I could connect with you to share experiences either via Teams or in person if you are at the EBTLC conference in Manchester in July.
Best wishes

Morning Zoe,
Also happy to help along with Simon and Laura. We use TBL extensively at Brunel University Medical School, London. Some of my Life Sciences Colleagues also use TBL as part of their overall teaching.
I will also be at the ETBLC and it will be good to connect.
Thanks,
Elizabeth
Hi Zoe
I’d be very happy to meet up as we also have experience scaling up the use of TBL more widely within our institution and, as part of a collaborative OfS grant with Nottingham Trent and Anglia Ruskin universities, developed some guidelines which might help you.
Unfortunately, I can’t attend the Manchester conference as I’m away on pre-booked annual leave, however if you drop me an email s.j.tweddell@bradford.ac.uk, then we could meet via Teams/Zoom
Best wishes
Simon
