Hello TBLers!
We just wrapped up an insightful customer demo workshop on Implementing TBL in Hybrid Teaching with @SteveCayzer from the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Bath. Professor Cayzer walked us through the intricacies of hybrid teaching for TBL and how InteDashboard can be a game-changer in achieving effective student learning.
During our discussion, we debated on the creation and arrangement of teams in a hybrid setting.
Some of the options presented by Steve were as follows:
-
Have heterogeneous groups and keep the teams permanent. Although this can mean flexibility for students, as they can access classes either remote or in-class, some of our participants mentioned that they have faced challenges when using this method. One challenge they mentioned was issues with noise from people who are onsite. Another challenge is that students who join online sometimes feel left out.
-
Another way is having homogenous teams, where teams often times need to swap. This way the whole team is either online or in-person, which can be advantageous. However, some of our workshop participants have faced challenges using this approach as well. A key challenge is having no permanent teams. This can sometimes be problematic as students need to change groups midway through the semester and communication challenges may arise.
What has been your most significant challenge or rewarding experience with implementing hybrid teaching in a TBL environment? Share your thoughts and experiences, and let’s learn from each other’s journeys!
