Hi everyone
A few hours left for our customer demo session with @sschneid from UC San Diego, School of Medicine.
Dr. Schneid will talk about how InteDashboard helps increase student learning outcomes in his Team-Based Learning teaching approach for postgraduate medical programs. He will also share how he leverages key features on InteDashboard to foster student collaboration in prematriculation courses.
Stay tuned for key insights and notes from the session!
During the enlightening session with Steve, attendees gained valuable insights into his approach to Team-Based Learning and his use of InteDashboard to enhance student learning.
ADOPTION JOURNEY
Steve shared his journey of introducing InteDashboard into the postbaccalaureate premedical program, initially inviting faculty to observe breakout room sessions. The seamless delivery and student engagement sparked excitement and interest among faculty members, leading to a successful pilot in the prematriculation course.
UNIQUE APPROACH TO TBL
Steve described his slightly modified TBL approach.
The summer course structure includes 5 TBL sessions, 5 quizzes, 4 exams, a comprehensive final, as well as self-reflections for every single TBL. Notably, in this course, IRATs do not count, and the IRAT and TRAT are at a high level of difficulty, close to the application exercise level. Also, students are allowed to use their notes for IRAT and TRAT, fostering deep discussions and more effective learning. For fall, winter, and spring courses, he keeps almost the same structure but modifies the grading percentages, having the TBLs with a bit increased weights.
USING INTEDASHBOARD FOR TBL CLASSES
Speaking of InteDashboard, about which Steve mentions: “I can’t thank InteDashboard enough for having a product that allowed me to be able to do it (TBL) in the way I wanted to do it,” he highlighted some key features he loves using:
- Steve highlights his use of question bank, allowing for easy modification of questions as needed.
- He also employs Confidence-Based Testing for IRAT, enabling students to split their answers and think through answer options.
- For TRAT, he sometimes provides hints and explanations for some questions, as it helps guide students toward correct answers. In case they miss the correct answer, they can use a hint on the second try to be more likely to arrive at the correct answer.
- Steve highlights InteDashboard’s feature to adjust time parameters post-activity, allowing him to subtract time or end the activity earlier if everyone has finished, according to the real-time data coming in.
- He also uses the 360 Degree Evaluation activity on InteDashboard for his Self-Reflection & Life-Long Learning piece, where he asks students questions about their learning experience. And students seem to like it!
