Do you use self-evaluations in peer feedback?

Dear colleagues,

I recently conducted a workshop on peer evaluation. While, research has shown receiving feedback is important in understanding how one is perceived, it is also important for learners to constructively reflect on the feedback. As part of that discussion, a question was raised about the use of self-evaluation in the peer evaluation.

Cortny Williams, @cwilliams, for example, mentioned that getting students to reflect on themselves is essential to help them provide and receive better feedback.

That got me wondering how many use self-evaluation and/or self-reflection.

  1. Do you use self-evaluation and/or self reflection?
  • Yes, I do
  • No, I don’t

  1. If yes,
    a. Is it a part of your peer evaluation or separate?
    b. How do you administer it?
    c. Is it required?
    d. Does it count toward the final grade (if yes, please describe)?
  2. If no, why not?

Looking forward to hearing your unique perspectives!

Sandy
